About the job :

Dwarf is looking for a Senior Environment Artist with a strong game-art background to join the production of a stylized animated feature film developed entirely in Unreal Engine. You will be responsible for transforming blocked-out environments from the previs team into visually rich, optimized real-time sets ready for lighting and rendering under the direction of the environment lead and supervisor.

This role bridges technical optimization and artistic staging, with a focus on modular workflows, PCG build or use, trim sheet usage, and efficient environment dressing. You will request and help building production-ready assets, build template kits, and handle the high-fidelity integration of each set, working closely with the Modeling, Surfacing, and Lighting departments.

Key Responsabilities :

  • Translate and build previs blockouts into real-time, high-quality environments within Unreal Engine

  • Design and apply modular workflows using PCG, trim sheets, decals, tileable materials, and kit-based assets

  • Create reusable environment pieces and templates for broader production use

  • Collaborate with modeling and surfacing teams to define up-res strategies for blocked elements

  • Compose and stage scenes with attention to lighting and narrative clarity

  • Ensure environments are optimized for performance and aligned with real-time rendering constraints

  • Maintain consistency with the artistic vision defined by Lookdev and Art Direction

  • Provide feedback and support on environment integration during lighting and final shot setup

Must have :

  • Strong experience as an environment artist in animation, games, or real-time cinematics

  • Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine for environment creation and scene management

  • Proficiency in PCG, in trim sheet workflows, modular construction, and decal-based detailing

  • Working experience with Blender, Substance Painter/Designer, and similar DCCs

  • Good eye for composition, scale, and stylization in environmental storytelling

  • Strong technical understanding of real-time optimization (draw calls, texel density, material usage)

  • Comfortable working collaboratively across departments

  • Bonus: This is a bilingual studio and project — good English communication skills are a plus

Start date : September 2025
Offer type : Customary fixed-term contract (intermittent)
Contract : Full time
Occupation : Environment
Level : Senior/Mid
Location : On site, Montpellier
